The world’s largest self-service laundry is located in Berwyn – Illinois USA –
Mr. Tom Benson, together with his sons Eric and Marc, runs the world’s largest self-service laundry:
- 1255 square metres of space;
- 140 washing machines;
- 170 dryers;
- Tons of work tables;
- 1 children’s play area;
- 1 aviary;
- TVs everywhere;
- Litres of free coffee all day;
- Kilograms of free donuts at breakfast.
These are the numbers that distinguish this business and have made it the largest over the years. An activity open 24 hours a day, beloved by customers, especially the youngest, who find here the Father Christmas village, Halloween treats, pizza night and every summer can win the bicycle raffled off by Mr. Benson in the laundry’s sponsored reading club competition.
The record dates back to 1982 when the laundry was owned by the previous owner; it was bought by the Benson family in 1999. In 2004, a disastrous fire destroyed the entire building. Despite the extensive damage Mr. Benson rebuilt and reinvented the world’s largest laundry.
Today, the laundry is also a place for its customers to relax and meet friends: “My business would be nothing without the loyalty of my customers and staff, and that is why I am committed to having employees who are part of it”.
